Hundreds of workers leave Playa del Carmen to return to home states

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — More than 450 people were provided with free transportation to leave the municipality of Solidaridad and return to their state of origin.

Arrangements for the 450 were made by Solidaridad City Council and overseen by the director of Transporte Municipal, Manuel Pérez Mendoza, who says a majority of those who went home were from the states of Chiapas and Tabasco.

He said the program, which was promoted by the Transportation Directorate, helped more than 450 people who requested the support, to return to their homes mostly in Chiapas and Tabasco. He explained the municipality is carrying out the program to support low-income workers, who, due to the pandemic, were left without a source of income and chose to return home during the coronavirus outbreak.

Pérez Mendoza explained that the buses depart from the Lázaro Cárdenas del Río park in the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood, adding that the program will be in effect for as long as the contingency continues.
