Family ‘pivoting’ search efforts for missing American cruise ship passenger

Cozumel, Q.R. — The search for a missing American man on the island of Cozumel continues. American Brad Solomon, 66, was reported missing by his family April 3 during an island cruise ship excursion.

Brad Solomon disembarked from the Icon of the Seas cruise ship with his family for a day of island shopping on April 3. According to his family, he has advanced dementia and wandered off while they were shopping.

State and municipal authorities immediately joined in the search which began along the coast with boats and aircraft that was eventually expanded to foot patrols in the deep jungle.

More than two weeks later, his family says now they are “pivoting” their efforts toward search and recovery.

During the first few days Mr. Solomon went missing, he was seen several times in the island’s city of San Miguel, however, he ran off when approached. Extended family from the U.S. flew to Cozumel to help in the search.

Island officials and volunteers moved their search efforts to abandoned buildings last week, but Mr. Solomon was not located. He was captured at least once on city surveillance in the downtown area, but after a frantic search, he was not found.

For the time being, the search for Mr. Solomon continues since, according to a recent family update “the vast majority is jungle and swamps. Very easy to lose one’s way,” they posted regarding the island.
