Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — A union strike by employees at the Secrets Silversands Riviera Cancun Hotel has began with union leaders calling it a breach of rights.
Head of la Confederación Revolucionaria de Obreros y Campesinos (CROC), Martín de la Cruz Gómez, said the 200-employee strike began Friday at noon over rights and payment conflicts.
De la Cruz Gómez commented “As is known to the public, said hosting center unilaterally decided to suspend operations and is in a legal conflict between partners who dispute the property.”
In a statement, he explained that he “…has always accompanied the workers in the process, and Friday at 12:00 hours, the strike movement previously authorized by the labor authorities began, attesting to both an actuary of the Conciliation and Arbitration Board such as the Notary Public No. 92 of Puerto Morelos, who attests to the physical presence of 200 unionized workers in that workplace.”
The strike involves the breach of the Secrets Silversands Riviera Cancun Hotel to fully cover the payments and rights of workers during the dispute, including employee transportation, salary payments and benefits.
La Confederación Revolucionaria de Obreros y Campesinos explained that in the absence of a response on the employer side due to the internal legal conflict, it has affected the rights of unionized workers for several months.
