Riviera Maya, Q.R. — A dozing driver ended up ditching his hatchback outside Paamul Sunday morning. The unidentified driver of the CVR totaled his vehicle around 3:00 a.m. Sunday while driving the federal highway.
Emergency responders from Playa del Carmen met the man at the accident scene where he detailed dozing off and nearly hitting a highway pole. In his attempt to avoid the pole, he ended up spinning and landing in the ditch.
The driver was able to get himself out of his hatchback and call 911 for help. Paramedics treated him at the scene before transferring him to a Playa del Carmen hospital.
National Guard Highway Division were sent to the area to guard the scene while a tow truck pulled the vehicle from the deep ditch to a Playa del Carmen corral.
