Cuba says ballast being shipped to Puerto Morelos an important investment for their country

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — The shipment of ballast from Cuba to Mexico has had its difficulties but is an important investment between the two countries. The Cuban General Consul in Quintana Roo, Armando Fernández Isla, made the comment during the recent visit of Cuban President Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

“Recently, the Cuban President was in Campeche along with the Mexican President and there were talks of investments, especially in the issue of Cuba’s participation in the transfer of ballast for the construction of the Maya Train. It is an important investment and it is important business that is being developed,” he said.

The process of shipping the ballast to Puerto Morelos is advancing little by little since it has just begun. He said that in time, it will strengthen and grow as the Maya Train project requires it and is a process that will continue to develop.

According to Armando Lara Denigris, the Secretary of Ecology and Urban Development, more than 200,000 tons of stone is expected at the Puerto Morelos dock from where it will transferred by truck to a crusher located on the Ruta de los Cenotes.

There it will be turned into ballast and then distributed to sections 5, 6 and 7 of the Maya Train, which runs from Cancun to Bacalar.
