Crime Stoppers Belize alert to two escaped prisoners near Chetumal

Chetumal, Q.R. — Belize authorities are on alert after the escape of two prisoners. The two men were to appear in Belize court Thursday morning, however, they managed to escape beforehand.

According to Belize media, the pair were being held in an improvised building to appear in court in Benque Viejo, a Belizaean town approximately 45 kilometers south of Chetumal, when the escape took place.

According to Crime Stoppers Belize, the pair made their escape around 10:40 a.m. on March 30. They are both wanted for escape from lawful custody.

Both men were being held inside an improvised holding area when they vanished. Area residents reported afterward seeing two men walk out of an adjoining yard. It is believed they escaped through the roof.

Authorities continue their search for the two men who have been identified as 20 year old Sergio Pineda and 25 year old Piers Castillo.

Crime Stoppers Belize says Castillo, a native of El Salvador, was serving time for robbery, while Pindea, a native of Guatemala, has a lengthy criminal record that includes conspiring to murder, trespassing and rape.
