Cozumel, Q.R. — Cozumel Civil Protection along with members of the Municipal Civil Protection Council and the Specialized Operating Committee on Hydrometeorological Phenomena (COEFH) to reaffirm actions prior to the start of hurricane season.

The island agencies said their meeting focused on being able to provide a prompt response in case of contingency for the benefit of the citizens of Cozumel.

“Because Cozumel’s geographical location is prone to the ravages of a tropical cyclone, the Municipal Government, chaired by Juanita Alonso Marrufo, held a meeting to reaffirm the functions that the 13 subcommittees must carry out to face emergency risk situations in an organized manner that arise during the 2023 season,” they reported in a statement.

At the meeting it was announced that on May 22, an exercise will be carried out in which the hypothesis of the threat of a tropical cyclone to the Cozumel coasts will be established.
