Cozumel spear fisherman makes it back to land after becoming separated from group

Cozumel, Q.R. — Friends and family were on hand Thursday to greet their fellow fishermen who was returned to land after being reported as missing. On Thursday, a young Cozumel fisherman became separated from his four spearfishing companions while at sea.

The five men were spearfishing between the north point and Punta Molas about two miles from the coast when the young man became separated from the others.

Unable to locate him, the four returned to land and gave notice to officials. The young fishermen, 25-year-old Adrian N, said he ditched his gear in the sea and began swimming toward the island when he was eventually picked up by a passing vessel.

He was left adrift for several hours before being rescued and returned to land where his mother and brother were waiting.
