Cozumel residents now get discount on Amerimed medical services

Cozumel, Q.R. — An agreement has been signed between Amerimed and the municipality of Cozumel that will allow residents access to their medical services with discounts. On Thursday, Deputy Renán Sánchez Tajonar signed the agreement with Samuel González Cruz, Director of the Amerimed Cozumel Hospital Unit.

In their agreement, residents of Cozumel will now get a discount on medical services and support provided by Amerimed.

“Physical health is a priority issue that involves the participation of different sectors of society,” they said in their joint statement. “Therein lies the importance of having access to medical services within everyone’s reach,” explained Renán Sánchez.

Renán Sánchez thanked Amerimed for its willingness to come to an agreement that had become “a great social demand of the people of Cozumel”. He said that during his campaign tours, meetings and conversations with people, health was a recurring theme.

“Health care implies a high cost because on many occasions the residents of Cozumel have to leave the island to receive specialized medical attention in Cancun, Playa del Carmen or Mérida, which implies expenses in transportation, lodging and food,” he explained.

“The steps that we can take for better medical care are of the utmost importance for the people and the signing of the agreement with the Amerimed Hospital is part of this framework, which is to provide medical care to the people of the island, facilitate their access to specialized medical services with more affordable costs,” he said.
