Bacalar, Q.R. — A car carrying a load of ballast derailed near the Limones Maya Train station in Bacalar. The accident happened early Thursday morning.
According to information gathered, the Dimsa company car is believed to have derailed due to excess weight while approaching the Tren Maya station. One person was reported mildly injured in the derailment and treated at the Bacalar clinic.
Reports indicate that the unit was carrying tons of ballast. After becoming derailed, the loaded car flipped onto its left side. A crane, along with Tren Maya personnel, were at the scene shortly afterward, working to place the car back on the tracks.

Sedena (Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional), who is in charge of Tren Maya, have not confirmed a connection between the derailment and the Maya Train itself. An official statement on the derailment has not been released.
It is the second derailment of a train car on Tren Maya tracks. In March 2024, a Maya Train car partially derailed near the Tixkokob station in Yucatan while traveling from Campeche to Cancun.
