Cancun, Q.R. — An elderly man who was hit by a Puerto Morelos taxi was pronounced on scene. The accident happened on José López Portillo Avenue when the 84 year old was crossing the street.
City police arrived in response to emergency reports of the pedestrian accident. Paramedics confirmed the man was dead. He has been identified as Natividad “H”.
Witnesses told police that the man was walking across the Cancun street when he was struck by the Puerto Morelos taxi. Transit officers proceeded to arrest the 29-year-old driver of the Leona Vicario taxi from the municipality of Puerto Morelos.
The Puerto Morelos taxi driver, Bernaldo “C”, is from the state of Yucatan. According to authorities, the pedestrian was trying to cross the avenue from north to south when the car, traveling from west to east, hit him due to the driver’s lack of caution. Police did not provide details on possible charges.
