AMLO reports seizure of plane, 1.5 tons of cocaine at Chetumal airport

Mexico City, Mexico — President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said during his morning press conference that a plane that “landed at one in the morning” with “a ton and a half of cocaine at the Chetumal airport,” has been seized adding that “one of the crew has already been arrested.”

He explained that the operation was led by the Secretariat of National Defense after the plane, which was found to be loaded with a ton and a half of cocaine, was seized by Mexican authorities at an airport located in Chetumal Tuesday.

López Obrador explained that the seizure occurred after a “follow-up of three planes that entered national territory through Quintana Roo, one of which landed at the Chetumal airport,” he said.

He said that upon landing, those inside fled, however, one of the pilots has been taken into custody. The Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) has begun an investigation into the case to try to determine the origin of the planes and their cargo.
