American man suffers heart attack while snorkeling off Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — An American man has died after suffering a heart attack while snorkeling. The accident happened Wednesday morning in the reef area of Isla Mujeres shortly after entering the water.

The man, identified as 43-year-old Robert L from Wisconsin, was on a catamaran tour with his wife. The pair boarded the catamaran, which departed from Puerto Juárez, to enjoy snorkeling the reef area of Isla Mujeres.

Upon reaching the reef and entering the water, the man began to feel ill, at which time, he was taken out of the sea and transferred to Isla Mujeres. Paramedics from a waiting ambulance were on standby upon his arrival, however, the man died before arriving.

Despite efforts, paramedics were unable to revive him.
