A handcuffed Ovidio Guzman photographed being extradited to Chicago to face drug charges

Mexico City, Mexico — The first photo of El Chapo’s son has been released by Mexican officials. A photo of handcuffed Ovidio Guzmán López on a plane for prison transfer has been released.

The photo shows Ovidio Guzmán López being extradited from Mexico to the U.S. Saturday. He was extradited to American soil eight months after his arrest in Mexico.

Ovidio Guzmán López was arrested January 5, 2023 after being arrested and freed by the Mexican Government in 2019. On September 16, he was released from the Altiplano Prison by elements of Interpol Mexico and transferred to Toluca Airport in an FGR helicopter where he was handed over to U.S. federal authorities who transferred him to Chicago.

According to The New York Times, Ovidio Guzmán is expected to appear in Federal District Court in Chicago Monday. He would be represented by Jeffrey Lichtman, a lawyer who also represented his father, El Chapo.

Guzmán López was facing accusations in multiple American cities including New York, where charges were filed against him and his brothers in April for trafficking fentanyl.

However, Chicago prosecutors were successful in having him transferred to them, where he will be prosecuted.
