Jaja, Nayarit — The Nayarit Secretariat for Citizen Security reported that the explosion of an LP gas truck on the Tepic-Guadalajara highway has left 12 dead and one injured.
The Nayarit State Attorney General’s Office indicated that the explosion of the gas truck had left a preliminary balance of six dead and several injured, however, as the hours passed, the number of people without life increased.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on the morning of November 16 between Ixtlán del Río and Chapalilla when a truck carrying LP gas hit four other vehicles before exploding.
On social media, the governor of Nayarit, Antonio Echevarría García said “a few minutes ago, the Secretary of Public Safety informed me that on the Tepic-Guadalajara highway, at the height of the Jala-Compostela crossing, there was an explosion of a gas tanker, which has unfortunately left several people dead. The elements of Citizen Protection and Firefighters, and the National Guard, are already in place and I have instructed that the victims be treated and supported as soon as possible.”
The state and municipal police corporations, as well as elements of Civil Protection and Firefighter, Public Ministries, Experts and SEMEFO personnel attended the scene of the events.
According to preliminary investigations, the driver of the truck lost control and ended up overturning, causing the explosion. The Secretaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana de Nayarit reported that five vehicles were involved including a double tanker semi-trailer that transported LP gas from the company Gómez Morín Torres.
