Cozumel, Q.R. — Two vehicles were consumed by a raging fire at a private Cozumel home. A motorcycle and car that were parked inside a gated area were completely destroyed by flames.
Cozumel firemen were sent to the two-story home in the Colonia San Miguel 1 area of the city where they extinguished the fire and rescued several people from the second level.
The fire is reported to have started in the garage area of the home’s only entrance around 2:00 a.m. Reports were made to emergency services by area residents who reported hearing explosions.
Neighbors tried to help those inside get out but were unable to do anything due to the raging fire. The family inside found themselves trapped and were forced to wait it out on the second level of their home.
Firemen were quick to respond to the report and extinguish the burning blaze. There were no major injuries reported, only extensive material damage. The home is reportedly owned by a island businessman.
A cause for the fire remains under investigation.
