Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — Two dead is the early reported result of a head on crash in Felipe Carrillo Puerto. Early Wednesday, a semi and cargo truck collided a few kilometers from the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
The driver of the semi is reported to have swerved into the opposite lane colliding with an oncoming cargo truck. Both the driver and passenger inside the small truck that was left completely destroyed in the collision were killed.
The double long semi ended up overturned in a highway ditch. Emergency response teams were at the scene of the 7:00 a.m. crash. Firemen, National Guard highways, police and medical closed the road.
The deceased are reported to be two men from inside the small cargo truck. The driver of the semi was treated at the scene before being transferred to hospital. An official cause for the accident is not yet known. The deceased have not been identified.
On Monday, at least eight people were killed in a highway crash outside the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto. That accident happened when a semi and passenger van collided causing the van to burst into flames upon impact.
Over half of the passengers inside the van were trapped and died in the fire.
