Three month old Jaguar seized from shipping area of Merida airport

Merida, Yucatan — A three month old Jaguar has been rescued from a box at the Merida International Airport. The young Jaguar was found during an operation to stop the illegal trafficking of animals.

According to the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa), the young male was rescued from with the help of a microchip. The Jaguar was outfitted with the chip, which helped authorities determine discrepancies between that and the paperwork presented by the alleged owner.

The animal was seized with assistance of the National Guard and transferred to the El Centenario zoo in Merida.
