Three marines killed in weekend Tabasco helicopter crash

Frontera, Tabasco — Three marines were killed after their helicopter crashed in the town of Frontera Saturday afternoon. On Sunday, the government of Mexico released a statement regarding the collapse of the aircraft that killed three of the five on board.

In a statement, the Secretary of the Navy reported the crash happened during operational activities in Tabasco. “Based on the information available at the time, a Eurocopter helicopter of the Mexican Navy that operated in the jurisdiction of the Fifth Naval Region, based in Dos Bocas, Tabasco, collapsed while making a reconnaissance flight,” they reported.

The helicopter was heading back to Dos Bocas when it began spinning and fell from the air. Five naval elements were being transported in the aircraft at the time of the accident Three lost their lives, while the other two suffered injuries.

The Navy of Mexico said that corresponding investigations will be carried out to determine the cause of the accident.
