Thousands march across state in recognition of International Women’s Day

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Thousands of women across the state marched Friday in recognition of International Women’s Day. Women in Cancun marched along Bonampak Avenue to demand an end to femicide and gender violence.

The Cancun march began at 6:00 p.m. after the groups gathered at the Malecón Tajamar entrance.

It was on Tulum Avenue where the marchers, with their fists raised, sat down for a moment of silence to remember victims of gender violence. Women and children were seen participating in the march that lasted several hours.

Thousands of women in Chetumal gathered for International Women’s Day to expose the absence of public policies that guarantee a life free of violence. In Playa del Carmen, a large contingent of women, many dressed in black with green or purple ribbons, marched along Fifth Avenue with messages and shouts against gender violence.
