Stolen Cozumel tourist boat found washed up on Isla Mujeres beach

Cozumel, Q.R. — A tourist vessel reported stolen from the island of Cozumel has been found abandoned in Isla Mujeres. The Cozumel boat had been recently outfitted with a new motor reported worth hundreds of thousands of pesos.

Boat Sea Urchin went missing sometime during the dark morning hours of Friday from her dock at Caleta. However later that evening, Sea Urchin was found washed up on a sandy area of Isla Mujeres.

The boat was reported stolen by its owner early Friday morning and first located approximately three nautical miles from the eastern side of Isla Mujeres (the island) around 4:00 p.m. Friday. However, by early Friday evening, the boat was seen again, this time on sand.

It was around 6:00 p.m. when the boat was seen abandoned on land on the eastern side and reported to the Harbor Master.

It is believed the boat was stolen for its motor then left adrift in the sea where it finally came to rest on a sandy beach area on eastern Isla Mujeres.
