Acapulco, Guerrero — Guerrero Governor Héctor Astudillo Flores announced that as of August 9, the state will go back to a red epidemiological light due to the increase in registered infections.
During the daily covid conference update, Héctor Astudillo pointed out that the new restrictive measures will be announced on Sunday and will be inforced “in the first minute of Monday.”
As for the tourist spots throughout the state of Guerrero, he said “we cannot close the Acapulco entrance to Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, so what I have to do is insist that those who visit us be more careful in their protection and of their families who accompany them. (…) This is very important, without ceasing to understand that people also need employment and also need resources to be able to live.”
The State Health Secretariat reported 851 new Covid-19 infections across the state in a 24-hour period, the highest figure since the pandemic began. They also reported Chilpancingo, Acapulco and Zihuatanejo as having a majority of the active cases in the state.
