Cozumel, Q.R. — The mayor of Cozumel says the municipal government, together with the Potable Water and Sewerage Commission (CAPA), are dealing with the situation of a new sinkhole.
Island mayor Juanita Alonso Marrufo says they are attending to the sinkhole formed on Rafael E. Melgar Avenue with Calle 8 norte in Colonia Centro, after receiving the noon report the day before.
She reported that the affected roadway “has been closed to avoid any mishap, either vehicular or with a tourist who is passing through said place.” CAPA will be addressing the problem that originated due to it being very washed out, which she added, was generated by leaks in the wells located in that area.
On Tuesday, work crews arrived at the site and were tentatively to deliver the project the same day. The repair was made through the Public Works department to facilitate the corresponding permits for the breakdown of the road so that CAPA could carry out the necessary work without setbacks, she explained.
