Cozumel, Q.R. — A local Cozumel man was shot and killed outside his home Tuesday night. He was approached by men on a motorcycle who shot him before fleeing.
The shooting happened around 9:00 p.m. in Colonia Ampliación Taxistas. The victim has been identified as local resident Ariel “N”.
The area was cordoned off by elements of the Quintana Roo Police while evidence was collected and the body removed from the street. It was the second shooting death of a local Cozumel reisdent in 24 hours.
On Monday night, another man was shot and killed in Colonia San Gervasio while outside his home. Arrests have not been announced in either shooting.
Earlier this week, Cozumel mayor Juanita Alonso Marrufo announced the appointment of Luis Alberto Taylor González to the Head of Dispatch of the Directorate of Public Safety and Municipal Transit. The announcement was made a month after Cozumel residents held a protest against the former head claiming a rise in island crime.
