Tulum, Q.R. — To date, the 2024 sargassum season has not affected the coasts of Tulum as it has in past years. Combat strategies are active reported Carla Patricia Andrade Piedras, the Director of the Tulum Hotel Association .
She explained that the hotel industry has had the opportunity to focus on other issues when in past years this phenomenon is the one that required the most attention and economic action of businessmen.
She said that cleaning and storage points show organization and have resulted in the coastlines showing off their white sandy beaches and turquoise blue sea.
“Fortunately, the work has already been done in advance by the municipality. Strategies were established that have more-or-less been working, and in some way, reducing the negative impact of sargassum on our beaches,” she said.
Despite this, she said hotels remain attentive and coordinated with authorities to keep the beaches clear of seaweed to show off their natural beauty.
The focus is to promote that Tulum’s beaches are free of sargassum and attract Mexican and foreign tourists and therefore, generate economic benefits for this tourist hub.
“At this moment we do not have a massive arrival like in other years, but we do know that it is being monitored,” she said.
