Sac-Tun operating legally the company reports after AMLO orders legal look

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The operating company of Sac-Tun says they are operating legally. The company says their permits were renewed for a period of three years, which allows them to continue excavating stone.

Their comment came after President Andrés Manuel López Obrador ordered a legal look into the situation. He made the order Monday after, according to him, a weekend flyover in Riviera Maya showed the company extracting and loading the material.

“The assertion that the company has acted illegally or that its permits were granted irregularly is simply false,” they said.

Vulcan Materials says their permit to extract and export was renewed for another three years, which allows Sac-Tun to continue exporting by sea to the United States.

“As of today, Sac-Tun legally produces and exports crushed limestone in full compliance with the necessary permits and authorizations, all of them duly granted in accordance with the corresponding procedures, always in accordance with the laws of the country,” the company added.
