Riviera Maya, Q.R. — A burst tire is the said cause of a combi rollover south of Playa del Carmen Sunday. The public transport van was traveling the highway near Paamul when the accident happened.
The van was heading south when its left rear tire burst. The nearly filled combi resulted in only minor injuries to some of its passengers. Emergency services arrived in response to numerous 9-1-1 reports of the early Sunday evening accident.
Other motorists who saw the accident stopped to help. They assisted the trapped passengers in getting out through the driver’s door since the van landed on its passenger door side.
Of the 14 passengers on board at the time of the roll, six required medical treatment for minor injuries. One girl from inside the van was reportedly transferred to Playa del Carmen hospital with undisclosed injuries.
National Guard Highways Division arrived at the scene to direct traffic while medical personnel attended to the injured and Transit police dealt with the rolled van.
