Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The drivers of two cars began the weekend in the corral after colliding head-on outside Playa del Carmen. On Saturday morning, police were summoned to the Riviera Maya highway accident near Punta Venado.
It was around 7:00 a.m. when highway motorists made the call to emergency services after seeing the cars collide.
Reports say one of the cars invaded the opposite lane, colliding head on with the second car. The driver of the invading vehicle reportedly dozed at the wheel and swerved into the oncoming lane.
That driver was heading toward Tulum at the time of the accident.
Both vehicles ended up ditched off the federal highway, appearing somewhat glued together by the crash. Emergency services attending to the report of the accident arrived to a metal mess.
Neither of the drivers was seriously injured in the collision, however, both vehicles were a write-off.
