Puerto Morelos reports good occupancy rates for 2024

Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — The Secretary of Sustainable Tourism of Puerto Morelos says the municipality had a good year. Raúl Guadarrama García, who heads municipal tourism, said Puerto Morelos, which offers 6,643 rooms between 67 hotels, has maintained good numbers throughout 2024.

According to Garcia, those figures were particularly good during the recent winter holidays, with hotel occupancy rates ranging between 80 and 85 percent.

Added to these figures, he reported, are 448 active vacation rental properties with an occupancy rate of 49 percent. Garcia says these private facilities charge an average rate of 3,200 pesos per night. In most cases, these are houses, not individual rooms, he added.

“Puerto Morelos represents 5 percent of the hotel infrastructure in Quintana Roo and has a large influx of visitors who do not stay overnight, who only come to enjoy the experiences such as aquatic experiences on the reef barrier, adventure, on the Route of the Cenotes and gastronomy since now there are establishments certified by the Michelin Guide,” he said.

García indicated that likewise, a large influx is expected at the beginning of 2025 when tourists and residents visit the beaches for the first rays of the sun as part of the traditions that are experienced across the state.

The head of Sustainable Tourism said that the United States and Mexico continue to be the main tourist-generating markets in Puerto Morelos, representing 37.3 and 35.5 percent, respectively. Canada, the United Kingdom and Colombia also stand out as important generators of visitors.

He says his department is working in coordination with Civil Protection and Citizen Security in the municipality, as well as with federal corporations and agencies, such as the National Guard and Navy, to make this holiday period as pleasant and safe as possible for visitors and residents.
