Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — The town of Puerto Morelos has opened its first Walmart brand store. On Friday, Puerto Morelos Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz cut the ribbon, welcoming the first Bodega Aurrerá Express.
The “Alborada” store in the municipal capital began operations Friday responding to meet the needs generated by the growth that is taking place in Puerto Morelos.
“I am pleased that they have turned to the municipality, that they create jobs and generate economic benefits that will strengthen the local economy,” Merari Tziu said.
The small version of their warehouse brand store has created 10 jobs.
Arturo Hermández Salazar, Puerto Morelos Bodega Aurrerá Manager, said the location aims to offer the lowest prices. The new establishment will operate from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., he added, confirming the hiring of 10 local residents.
Fernando Matus, the Assistant Director of Operations for Walmart in Quintana Roo and Yucatán, thanked Puerto Morelos authorities for their support as well as the people who gathered outside the store early on opening day.
Matus says their goal is to continue contributing to the development of the municipality, the state and the country.
