Playa del Carmen, Q.R. –The municipality of Playa del Carmen has been ranked as one of the most safe cities in Mexico. Under the administration of Mayor Estefanía Mercado, Playa del Carmen ranks sixth place nationally in perceived security.

The ranking was prepared by Rubrum in August 2025 in the most recent ranking of Morena (political) mayors. While the city ranks sixth nationally, it ranks first in the state. Residents of Playa del Carmen ranked their city safest followed by those living in Chetumal and Cancun.
Mercado said this result reflects that the comprehensive security strategy implemented in coordination with the state and federal governments is yielding tangible results, generating greater trust among citizens.
She affirmed that this progress is a product of the collective will and commitment of the security forces to the people.
“We are demonstrating that security is built through coordination, strategy and closeness to the people. Playa del Carmen will continue to advance until it becomes a model municipality throughout the country,” Mayor Merdaco said.
With this recognition, Playa del Carmen consolidates its position as a benchmark in building peace and well-being, ensuring that prosperity reaches every family in Playa del Carmen.

According to Rubrum, a polling firm specializing in measuring and analyzing electoral processes and conducting public opinion studies, “the methodology was samples conducted: 1,000 surveys per municipality, via telephone, automatically and randomly.
“Sample population: Sample population of men/women living in each of the municipalities evaluated in Quintana Roo, over 18 years of age. Sample type: Representative random. Margin of Error: +/- 3.8. Survey date: August 4-9, 2025.”
