Police arrest trio in multiple Cozumel murders

Cozumel, Q.R. — Two adults and a minor were taken into police custody for several island murders. The two adults, Erik Mauricio “N”, Ana Mariel “N”, were arrested along with an under aged teen for their involvement in three murders and one attempted murder on the island of Cozumel.

According to the State Attorney General, three men were murdered between March 13 and April 8 of this year. During that same time frame, a fourth attempted murder on a Cozumel man was also made by the same trio.

The three murders and one attempted murder were made in four separate incidents.

“The arrest of Erik Mauricio “N”, Ana Mariel “N” and a minor teenager took place on 10 Street North and 75 Street North in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood of Cozumel for their probable participation in drug dealing.

“These people were seized with bags of marijuana and a solid crystalline substance similar to the drug known as methamphetamine.

“Along with the alleged drugs, they seized two firearms from Erik Mauricio “N”, as well as a magazine with useful cartridges. These people are part of a violent criminal group dedicated to the sale of narcotics.

“Derived from the first investigations, it is established that those now detained are related to three homicides and one attempted homicide in Cozumel.

The first homicide occurred on March 13 against a man on 25th Street South in the San Miguel I neighborhood. He was killed by a gunshot wound. Likewise, on March 26, a man was injured on Pedro Joaquín Codwell Avenue, who later lost his life in a hospital.

“As for the third homicide, this took place on April 3 on the South Coastal Highway where a man died from a firearm projectile. Finally, a male was injured by a firearm on April 8 on José María Morelos Street in the Centro neighborhood,” the FGE said in an official statement.
