Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — One man is reported to have been shot to death in an early morning Playa del Carmen attack. The shooting, which left a second person injured, happened on Tecnológico Avenue near the intersection with Arco Vial.
Police and paramedics were at the scene around 8:30 a.m. in response to the shooting. One of the shooting victims, who was shot three times, was rushed to a Playa del Carmen hospital where he died shortly after being admitted.
The second victim is reported to have shot back at his attackers and was hit. He too, was transferred to hospital and is expected to live.
The shooting happened next to a new under-construction residential area which is being built less than three blocks from the Playa del Carmen police facilities.
Municipal police combed the scene of the shooting using K9 dogs in a search for narcotics, since the line of investigation is leaning toward a drug turf war.
