Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Approximately 80 tons of cable has arrived from Merida for the Isla Mujeres CFE replacement project. On Monday, the cable that will feed electricity from the Isla Mujeres mainland to the island was trucked in.
The cable will be used to replace the current 30-year-old submarine cable that has outlived its useful life. The CFE has said the project will come in at around 277 million peso. Up until the time the cable arrived, CFE personnel began excavation work to build docking wells to hold the submarine cable in place.
At the end of October, workers began trench digging at Playa Norte on the island. The installation of the cable is one of three submarine cable projects by the CFE. All three, Isla Mujeres, Holox and Cozumel, are scheduled for completion by the end of this year.
