Cancun, Q.R. — A new section of roadway in the direction of Kukulcan Boulevard toward the Cancun International Airport is open. The new section is an interchange and part of the complementary work of the Nichupté Bridge.
Governor Mara Lezama led the opening of the new elevated structure of the Kukulcan Road Distributor to traffic Sunday morning. At 6:00 a.m., traffic heading in the direction of Kukulcan Boulevard toward the Cancun airport began using the new road.

Governor Lezama says the new road was a strategic project of the Government of Mexico that will improve mobility and strengthen connectivity in the Hotel Zone.
During the opening, the Governor highlighted that new infrastructure is the result of efforts made with President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, who supported the project and entrusted its execution to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT), headed by Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, as part of the actions to modernize the road infrastructure of one of the country’s main tourist destinations.
Lezama explained that the new interchange is part of the complementary work of the Nichupté Bridge, a project initiated during the administration of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and will allow for the organization of vehicular flows between downtown Cancun, the Hotel Zone and the airport.
With the opening of this first structure, motorists traveling along Kukulcán Boulevard toward the airport will be able to use the new elevated roadway. Those heading toward downtown Cancun will have to merge onto the Nichupté Bridge.
Mara Lezama reported that the opening of the opposite direction of the interchange is expected in the coming weeks, which will continue to advance the integration of this road infrastructure to facilitate the movement of residents, workers and visitors.

Until then, drivers are urged to respect signs, drive with caution, and anticipate their travel times, as the Kukulcán return, located next to La Joya Hospital, will remain closed to general traffic, only allowing local access to the plaza.
