New public bus service ready for Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A new public bus transportation system for Isla Mujeres will begin operating in December, says its mayor, now that the buses have arrived.

Juan Carrillo Soberanis, municipal president of Isla Mujeres, said that the new buses that will provide the urban transport services have arrived and could be operational by December 10. He explained that company Consorcio Empresarial del Sur TPE won the tender in August and has been working on getting the new buses and creating a transport route.

Once the buses are put into operation, they will cover three routes on both the island and Continential Mainland of Isla Mujeres. One route will run from the Isla Mujeres center from 6:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. and the other two routes will run 4:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.

The announcement for the new public transport system was made back in September. There is no word the cost of the bus tickets.
