New Base 4 water tank project for Cozumel nearing completion

Cozumel, Q.R. — A new pump station is on the verge of being put into operation at Base 4 of Cozumel. The 1,000 cubic meter capacity tank is being constructed in a joint project by the state government and the Potable Water and Sewerage Commission (CAPA).

The new system, which is 75 percent complete, is being constructed to address the lag by meeting demand and improve water service for the 100,724 residents in the municipality of Cozumel.

The general director of CAPA, Gerardo Mora Vallejo reported that 26.9 million pesos has been invested into the Base 4 tank project. He said the funding was contributed by the state and the federation, through the Drinking Water, Drainage and Sanitation Program (Proagua 2021) of the National Water Commission (Conagua).

The construction of the tank is located at the Base 4 station and will also consist of special facilities including a pump house, mechanical and electromechanical equipment, suction and discharge plumbing, automation, control and interconnections for the operation and start-up of the tank.
