Navy rescues nine from stranded boat off coast of Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Nine people were rescued Sunday by the Navy of Mexico after their boat failed at sea. The rescue took place Sunday afternoon off the coast of Isla Mujeres when the Secretaría de Marina responded to the request for assistance.

Late Monday, the Secretary of the Navy reported that personnel from the Naval Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station of Isla Mujeres, carried out a rescue of nine people.

They set out in search of the vessel after receiving a report Sunday in the Command and Control Room of the C-5 that a vessel with nine crew members on board was without propulsion due to a fire.

The small boat, which was not identified in their statement, was located off Isla Mujeres. All nine on board were transferred to the navy vessel and the private boat towed to a dock.
