Multi-vehicle crash outside Paamul leaves 10 injured

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Paramedics treated 10 people for injuries sustained in a Tuesday afternoon Riviera Maya highway accident. The multi-vehicle accident happened near Paamul around 5:00 p.m.

A cement truck that allegedly lost breaking power collided with a red March and public Playa del Carmen combi transport van. A car behind the red March then collided with the back of it.

The driver of the grey concrete truck was heading north when he lost control of his heavy unit. The cement truck was found off the shoulder in highway brush with an unharmed driver. The combi was forced off the road driving nose-first into a brick wall. The two private cars remained crunched together in the left lane of the road.

Passing motorists stopped to help the crash victims. Four ambulances arrived at the crash site to treat 10 people. It is not known how many were transferred to hospital, however, the driver of the combi transport van was found trapped behind the wheel.

Firemen from Playa del Carmen were requested to remove the trapped driver using the jaws of life. He is reported in serious condition in hospital.

National Guard Highway diverted traffic through the one open lane for several hours while the involved vehicles were cleared from the busy Riviera Maya highway.
