Maya Train continues with upward month over month ticket sale trend

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The Maya Train continues an upward trend in ticket sales with an average monthly increase of 13 percent. Óscar David Lozano Águila, Tren Maya General Director, says from December 2023 until July of this year, 297,237 passengers have traveled using the train.

At the Tuesday morning press conference with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, he explained that the Maya Train began operations with a monthly average of 10,851 people. By March 45,091 passengers were recorded and in July, 63,764 travelers hopped aboard.

On Tuesday, he reported that section 4 of the Maya Train, from Izamal, Yucatan to Cancun, Quintana Roo, accounts for 30 percent of total ticket sales with 89,158 people transported as of July 29.

Of this number, 43,743 correspond to national passengers, 21,582 are local, 6,253 are international and 17,580 are special tickets with discounts for teachers, students, people with disabilities and senior citizens.

Currently, Tren Maya offers eight commercial services at the following times:

9:00 hours Palenque-Cancun
9:30 a.m. Cancun-Palenque
7:00 a.m. Campeche-Cancun
16:30 hours Cancun-Campeche
7:00 a.m. Merida-Playa del Carmen
17:30 hours Playa del Carmen-Merida
11:45 am Cancun-Mérida Teya
2:40 p.m. Mérida Teya-Cancún

At the end of July, additional time slots were added to the Tren Maya schedule to accommodate its growing demand. The two additional slots were were officially added July 26 along the Cancun-Merida route.
