Main artery of San Miguel undergoes repaving project

Cozumel, Q. R. — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has announced a 17.4 million peso investment for the reconstruction of Rafael E. Melgar Avenue. The popular and much used area of San Miguel will be fully repaved.

Cozumel Secretary of Public Works, Irazú Sarabia along with the Undersecretary, Ricardo Archundia, explained that this remodeling includes the lifting of the existing asphalt layer as well as the construction and formation of the hydraulic base to later lay the new layer.

The repaving will be done between Avenue Claudio Canto and Calle 31 in both directions and initially include 3.2 kilometers of road.

“The 24/7 work of knocking on doors and managing the federal government to achieve the transformation of Quintana Roo continues to give results,” Lezama said regarding the money for the project.

“Proof of this is the authorization of resources for this beautiful municipality of Cozumel,” she said noting that Rafael E. Melgar Avenue has hosted each of Cozumel’s annual carnival celebrations.

She said the repaving project is good news and is in response to the requests of the people of Cozumel, as it is a project that will transform the urban image of the main avenue of the island.
