Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Atenea Gómez Ricalde says she works to ensure Isla Mujeres stays among the top 10 most visited Magic Towns. Mayor Gómez Ricalde says the municipality remains in the top 10 this year thanks to strong tourist promotion.
Ongoing maintenance of the beaches along with the recently announced infrastructure projects also help to promote the destination.
The island portion of the municipality enjoys the distinctive Blue Flag beach recognition, known as a destination of natural wealth and clean beaches.
Mexico has 132 Magic Towns recognized for their beauty, culture and nature. Gómez Ricalde says visiting a Magic Town is synonymous with tranquility, but also with adventures and fun where you can learn more about the culture of each town.
Gómez Ricalde said that according to a report by travel company Despegar, Isla Mujeres is ranked number nine out of the 132 Magic Towns across Mexico. The travel company detailed that 60 percent of Mexican travelers prefer colonial towns and tend to stay between three and five days.
