Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The downtown area of the island of Isla Mujeres is set for major renovations. On Tuesday, Isla Mujeres Mayor Atenea Gómez toured the area where the infrastructure improvement projects will begin.
Gómez says the renovations are part of the strategies to improve the image and infrastructure of the Downtown Zone and Rueda Medina Avenue. During her tour, she was accompanied by municipal authorities who explained that the project will include the placement of new led lighting fixtures, the rehabilitation of pedestrian crossings, garnishes, sidewalks, planters, as well as the placement of signage.
During the tour, Gómez also said that she is currently in negotiations with different companies to provide various basic services such as water, electricity and telecommunications as well as the replacement of the aerial electrical wiring to an underground system, which she said, will provide greater security to pedestrians.
Gómez said the renovations are scheduled to begin toward the end of this month and will cover Rueda Medina Avenue where the monument to the Fisherman is located up to the Ninth Naval Region.
She said during the renovations, she is asking the island community and visitors for patience and understanding since the projects are of great relevance for the island.
