Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Five people were taken to Cancun hospital Thursday night after a two-taxi crash on mainland Isla Mujeres.
The accident happened outside the town of Francisco May in the municipality of Isla Mujeres.
According to early information, one of the taxi drivers involved came upon a broken down unit on the dark highway. That taxi was being pushed by a group of people. While he was able to swerve to avoid hitting the people, he did hit the taxi. Both units ended up ditched.
Paramedics found eight injured people between the two taxis. Five were transferred to Cancun hospital of which three were minors. The other three were treated at the scene for minor abrasions.
The two Cancun taxis were heading to the city of Cancun at the time of the accident.
