Cancun, Q.R. — The Municipal Transit Directorate of Cancun has announced city street closures. Traffic circulation will be restricted starting 11:00 p.m. The city of Cancun says the restrictions will be put into place in areas where high rates of covid infections have been detected.
The notice was made after repeated warnings from state governor Carlos Joaquin, who says the entire state is on the brink of regressing back to a red situation, which implies business closures and general public restrictions.
Cancun City Council says that three of the city’s main areas will be temporarily shut from 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
José López Portillo on the corner with La Torcasita (Calle 19 Norte); The traffic that passes over the Portillo will be diverted to Av. Chichén Itzá or, failing that, traffic will return to Av. Kabah.
Crossing of Chichén Itzá with Tulum, traffic that passes on Av. Tulum is diverted toward Av. Uxmal on Av. Chichén Itzá.
The other crossing that will be closed is López Portillo with Rehoyada. Traffic that passes on Av. López Portillo is being diverted toward Av. Chichén Itzá or returns to Av. Bonampak.
Through a statement, the city said the closures are for the “purpose of avoiding crowds because the municipality is at risk of turning red at the state epidemiological light.” The statement did not say how long the street restrictions would last.
