Tulum, Q.R. — The Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo) of Quintana Roo has launched a public tender for the operation of golf carts in Tulum. In August, the Institute approved 400 golf carts as a new form of public transportation for the town’s center.
On September 15, they launched a public tender for the operation of the project.
According to a study published in the Official State Gazette on August 15, a mobility impact study carried out in June of this year by Imoveqroo (Instituto de Movilidad del Estado de Quintana Roo) revealed the need to have a transportation option due to growth.
According to the document, the introduction of these golf carts is considered an “acceptable option for the movement of users from the urban area to the coastal and tourist area,” having a route along some primary and secondary roads.

The golf cart service will be provided under the “rental transportation service for all types of vehicles” scheme, allowing the general public to be able to rent the golf carts and drive them themselves.
According to the document, the project will provide the municipality of Tulum with 400 golf cart vehicles with a maximum capacity of six people, including the driver and “will allow for continuous movement in the urban area and coastal area of the town center.”

The golf cart rental is meant to be an option for tourists to get around the town centre since now, taxis are the main option. Imoveqroo is expected to announce the results of the public tender in coming months.
