Horrific three vehicle accident on highway to Cancun leaves dead, injured

Merida, Yucatan — A three-vehicle highway accident along the Merida highway leading to Cancun has killed one and left 11 seriously injured. On Tuesday, the Secretaría de Seguridad Pública (SSP) confirmed the figures, saying three vehicles were involved.

The accident happened early Tuesday morning on the federal Mérida-Valladolid highway where a portable water truck collided with a transport trailer, which in turn, hit a public passenger van. The driver of the public passenger van was killed. He was pronounced on scene.

Fire brigade and ambulance medical personnel were in charge of rescuing the injured, providing first aid and transferring them to hospitals, while state police dealt with passing traffic along the partially closed highway.

Agents of the State Investigation Police along with forensic experts from the State Attorney General’s Office arrived at the accident site for the legal proceedings.
