Riviera Maya, Q.R. — While security checkpoints will be placed around the state during the holiday season, breathalyzer tests will not be part of them. State transit director Jorge Santana Poot explained that due to the ongoing covid-19 situation, breathalyzer tests will not be administered to drivers.
He said given that, security checkpoints will still be set up.
“We must take care of the health of the traffic elements,” he said adding that checkpoints will focus on recommending the use of the mask as well as maintaining a healthy distance by avoiding overcrowding in cars, but “we are not going to apply the breathalyzer during this time,” he said.
Other focuses during the roadside checkpoints will include traveling with weapons and locating prohibited substances and narcotics along with overlapping plates for vehicle theft reports.
