Group of Cancun neighbors lynch alleged thief to death

Cancun, Q.R. — One of two alleged thieves was killed after the pair were lynched by a group of neighbors in a Cancun residential area. On Monday evening, neighbors responded to screams they told police they heard coming from other area neighbors who said they were being robbed by two men.

A group of people from the Villas del Mar neighborhood in SM 248 took to tracking the two alleged robbers down. It was around 7:30 p.m. when police were called with the report of two men armed with knives.

Before police arrived, one of the men was lynched to death, while the second, injured. Neighbors said they are tired of the robberies, adding that “the authorities do nothing,” so they took justice into their own hands.

The injured man, who took refuge in a nearby house, was turned over to police. Authorities have since said that the two men were youths.
