Grito de Independencia celebration will be digital in Cozumel

Cozumel, Q.R. — Cozumel mayor Pedro Joaquín Delbouis has announced that this year, there will be no Independence Day celebrations due to the ongoing health situation that prevails in the municipality.

Joaquín Delbouis says that this year, there will not be any face-to-face festivities as traditionally occurs with Grito de Independencia or the civic-military parade on September 16. He explained the festivities have been canceled to avoid crowds and reduce coronavirus infections in the municipality.

He did add, however, that the municipality will carry out activities through digital platforms.

Joaquín Delbouis clarified that they will only hold a civic ceremony in commemoration of the 210th anniversary of the Independence of Mexico, which will be austere, taking care of sanitary measures.
